Q&ACategory: Dividend StocksWhat to do with scrip dividends
Candy Lee asked 2 months ago
Hi, I opted for bank's scrip dividends and now am stuck with odd lots.  I realised your advice is to get cash instead, but since I am stuck now, what is the best way to go?  Continue to opt for scrips when available to try to accumulate or cash?

Hi Candy Odd share is hard to clear because it is odd lot and you need to go to odd lot market to clear them. Often time, it doesn't make sense to sell because the fees alone may eat away your sales proceed. I usually leave the odd shares in the CDP after I cleared the main position.. You should choose cash unless from your calculation, the additional scrip dividend will create more odd shares that would make your overall shares in multiple of 100 shares.

I think you may have to reach out to the company directly. Go to their investor relation and find the contact email.
There should be form that you need to fill up and send back to them.

Hi Rusmin, can you advise. Recently don’t recall receiving any mailers on option for scrip or dividend. Have they gone online? I would like to try to create more odd shares to make up multiple of 100. Can they be sold in 100s or has to be 1000?

Can you advise how to calculate too?

SGX/Bursa’s lot size is in 100 shares. HK market depends on the stock. It varies.

I still receive letters via mail for scrip dividend for SG stocks. So I think it hasn’t gone fully online yet.
