Q&ACategory: Portfolio ManagementWhen to deploy the cash?
Orlando asked 4 months ago
Just out of curiosity, is there any guidance on when the cash should be deployed?  Do I buy stocks only when there are good opportunities and I have enough cash in the portfolio hits $X?  Or as long as I have a min of $1K cash, I should start buying given the transaction fees these days are low compared to 2-3 decades ago.

Hi Orlando, The best time would be during the crisis (i.e. China crisis now). Or whenever there is an opportunity (passes all the criteria, including valuation), you can start deploy your money. Even with lower brokerage cost (i.e. $10), I think the min quantum should be at least $1000/idea then you can allocate into other opportunities to get the diversification of at least five to ten holdings then slowly expand it to 15 holdings over time.
